Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Tomorrow, local attention will be on NDSU as the university celebrates the pinnacle of academic and athletic success.

You'd think it would be a perfect storm of parking problems: the biggest home football game of the year and commencement on the same evening on the frozen and snow covered campus of NDSU. But if you talk to commencement organizers, you'd think it's a walk on the beach."

Rhonda Kitch/NDSU Associate Registrar: "This is our 3rd consecutive year moving our ceremony from the Fargodome to the Bison Sports Arena, so we're well acquainted with the facility."

And, well acquainted with parking cars for numerous events in a small space.

Here's the plan:

Graduation will be held in the Bison Sports Arena at 4:00 p.m.

People may park in lots R and RF free of charge.

However, if you're planning on attending the game, you're asked to pay for the $3 parking at the Fargodome and walk over to the commencement ceremony.

Associate Registrar Rhonda Kitch tells me she expects that will be the case for many.

Kitch: “In fact, I do recall even last year seeing some folks in the playoff crowd donning their academic regalia."

The graduation ceremony is expected to end by 5:30 p.m and football fans will then be allowed to park in the R and RF lots used for graduation.

This is when most congestion will likely take place-- as football fans will be coming in as the graduation crowd clears out.

Kitch: "We really are encouraging people to allow for extra time for travel."

It really boils down to organization. Kitch tells me due to the recent success of the football program-- she had a pretty good idea this was going to happen. So, she booked both the BSA and the Fargodome for commencement back in April.

If you have any questions about parking, we have a map linked on our website.
