Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - After 30 years two faith communities in West Fargo took the first step toward ending an extremely rare partnership.

Holy Cross Catholic Church officially sold its portion of the Cross Way Center to Lutheran Church of the Cross.

The Catholic community will remain in the building until it moves to a new church and school building in 2015.

The Lutheran community will then expand into the space to grow its own ministries and education program.

The ecumenical partnership was only one of three in the entire world where two communities of those denominations shared a common space.

Bill Thompson/Paster, Lutheran Church of the Cross: “I think we all regret the demise of this unique ecumenical relationship and what it has meant to many, many people. We also understand that the Spirit is moving us in to new territory and that through this separation, our congregations can be served in, perhaps, better ways."

The center served more than 100 families of mixed faiths.
