West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The West Fargo police department is dropping its investigation into an alleged sexual assault.

It now says it didn't happen.

The change comes after police investigated the allegations made by a woman on Wednesday.

She claimed two men broke into her apartment, grabbed her hair and attempted to assault her.

Assistant Chief Mike Reitan says they will not be charging the person who reported the assault.

Mike Reitan/Asst. Chief, West Fargo PD: “We've had an opportunity to talk to some other people that were located in the building. We weren't able to collaborate her claim.”

A press release about the alleged assault was made public by the department in error Monday, before investigators could determine if assault happened.

Reitan says a supervisor must approve any future releases.
