Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - When the Hawley Nuggets took on DGF Friday night, the game was slightly delayed; thanks to a little holiday cheer.
It is an update to a story we have been following all week.
A few days ago, we told you about the honesty of Erica Clark who found a pile of $100 bills outside the McDonald's parking lot in Moorhead.
She and police tracked down the owner of the $2,800 and the money was returned.
A viewer came to WDAY carrying a letter and an envelope and he asked that WDAY find a way to thank Erica and to give her the envelope.
Friday night, DGF took on Hawley; and Erica was there, too.
On game day, Erica Clark is all business. After all, she assists DGF Head Coach Mike Clark (her dad), but as the Rebels and Nuggets got their last practice shots in... A little surprise from WDAY.
Kevin Wallevand- WDAY Reporter: “One of our viewers saw the story and was pretty impressed by Erica and her honesty and that viewer stopped by yesterday with a note."
We called up Erica as we read a letter from an anonymous writer to her and all the Nugget-Rebel fans.
Wallevand: “A WDAY viewer wrote, ‘Erica, you’re an inspiration. You’ve demonstrated the integrity and honesty that this world can use today. Hopefully your story has touched many hearts and has inspired others to do what’s right. Please accept this anonymous gift of $2,800 to show that your actions have not gone unnoticed. God Bless and Merry Christmas.'"
That's right; the anonymous donor graciously gave Erica a Christmas to remember: $100 bills; 28 of them. Her proud family watched the well-deserved pre-game Erica pep fest.
Erica Clark- Rewarded for Honesty: “I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting this. I wasn’t doing it for all the attention; I did it because it was the right thing to do.”
A reward for her honesty and humble reaction to the attention she has been getting...
Clark: “It’s definitely been overwhelming.”
You bet Dad is proud.
Mike Clark- Erica’s Dad: “It’s definitely been nice, you know. Erica would have done that regardless of all the attention or whatever she gets out of this. She doesn’t expect anything. It is an honor and I told her ‘you know what? You should just run with it. You should be proud of what you did and leave it at that.’”
And to that anonymous donor?
Erica Clark: “A huge thank you; you didn’t need to do that at all. I wasn’t expecting that. It caught me off guard.”
It sure felt like Christmas in Hawley Friday night, and this MSUM freshman will find a good place to spend some of that money.
Erica Clark: “I do have Christmas shopping I have to do, so that’ll help out a lot.”
Earlier this week, the man who lost the money met privately with Erica and thanked her; and a separate anonymous donor left $200 at The Forum for Erica.
