Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A group at NDSU is taking on the problem of high risk drinking on campus.

The NDSU President's Council today introduced a strategic plan they intend to kick off after the New Year.

It's aimed at reducing negative consequences of substance use, including underage drinking, binge drinking, and illicit drug use.

The group plans to work with the community, businesses and employers, to try to determine a student's treatment and intervention needs.

And provide fun, Saturday night activities on campus that are alcohol free.

University leaders say students seem to be on board.

Gene Taylor/Athletic Director/President’s Council Co-Chair: “Personally for the committee and for the council, we've learned a lot from our students. They bring a lot of great ideas and they really have some good thoughts on what is the most effective way to message to our students and that's been real pleasing to be a part of.”

The updated strategy is an expansion of the university's 2009 to 2012 plan.
