FARGO - Alexis Bolstad, a Fargo Davies student injured in a summer accident, could be released Friday following another surgery.
According to her CaringBridge site, surgeons at Essentia Health put back pieces of her skull that were removed shortly after her injury in order to accommodate swelling in her brain.
Her family said it means she will no longer have to wear a helmet while moving around. Doctors also changed her feeding tube to make it more comfortable, and a plastic surgeon worked on the scar on her forehead to make it less noticeable.
The post says Lexi will be kept in the hospital overnight, but if everything goes well tomorrow, she will be released.
The 18-year-old was riding on the back of an electric GEM car in August when she lost her balance, fell off and struck her head. Lexi spent more than two and a half months at Craig Hospital in Denver, Co., receiving physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Lexi is a senior at Davies. She has been a standout athlete, competing in basketball and volleyball.
