Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Dilworth and Moorhead city councils Monday night approved resolutions opposing the requirement to install sprinkler systems in all single-family homes, 4,500 square feet or larger.

Minnesota lawmakers have twice declined the proposal. Now, the matter will be decided by an administrative law judge.

Moorhead's Fire Chief Rich Duysen says it costs roughly $3,500 to install sprinklers in a 2000 square foot home. He calls it "a minimal fee if it saves lives."

Moorhead's city manager Michael Redlinger opposes it, saying it could stifle growth in a border city like Moorhead.
