West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A fire in a home day care in West Fargo sent the people inside scrambling to safety Monday morning.

Everyone, including seven children, was out of the home and staying warm in an SUV by the time fire crews arrived.

The fire sparked in the back bedroom of the mobile home at 10 a.m. at 1014 Brookwood Lane.

The West Fargo Fire Chief says it was fortunate that a volunteer fireman was nearby when the fire started.

Roy Schatschneider- Chief, West Fargo Fire Dept.: “He went in and discovered it was just a small fire at the time, but it was producing a lot of smoke, so he grabbed a shovel full of snow and then put it on the material that was burning; basically putting the fire out, so it was extinguished very quickly.”

The Dakota region of the American Red Cross is providing temporary housing for the family and their pets that live there.

Officials are still investigating, but suspect that electrical problems could be the cause.
