Minto, ND (WDAY TV) - But the fun certainly won't be contained to the "Land of 10,000 Lakes".

Despite the frigid temperatures, a few enthusiasts from North Dakota couldn't wait to step outside and enjoy the great outdoors this weekend.

A sound that in North Dakota, is as synonymous with winter as the wind and snow itself. And with recent storms and heavy snowfall, snowmobile riders were out in full force this weekend.

Ian Tibert/Grafton Resident: “Very excited about it. Was looking forward to it this year.”

Lance Mondry/Grand Forks Resident: “Last year we didn't get good snow to ride until January so this year we were pretty pumped to get out early.”

Snow that has riders looking forward to the next few months.

Tibert: “It's actually really good. It makes for a good base for the rest of the year.”

A base that's being aided by frigid temperatures, sub-zero conditions that are no deterent for these eager riders.

Mondry: “It may feel below zero outside but when you're riding you're sweating. You're working hard.”

When out riding, snowmobilers use helmets for safety and to stay warm.

Helmets, along with other gear make for a fun and safe ride.

Mondry: “We make sure we have good boots so you don't twist your ankle if you fall off or something. a lot of people wear tech vests .it protects your ribs and your chest so you don't break something if you hit the handle bars. So I’d highly recommend that.”
