Lawsuits filed against General Mills over potentially harmful vapors

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two lawsuits have been filed against General Mills over potentially harmful vapors from a chemical used at its former research facility.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two lawsuits have been filed against General Mills over potentially harmful vapors from a chemical used at its former research facility.

The lawsuits seek class action status on behalf of homeowners in the Como neighborhood of Minneapolis. They allege their property has been damaged because of chemical contamination that has migrated into the ground beneath their homes.

Minnesota Public Radio reports recent soil tests in the neighborhood show that vapor levels from the chemical known as TCE exceed government health limits for indoor air. State officials are testing about 200 homes for vapor levels.

One lawsuit seeks compensation for costs that residents have incurred to protect themselves from vapor exposure. The other asks to establish a medical monitoring trust fund.

General Mills says it doesn't comment on pending litigation.
