Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - This time next year, Fargo Snow-plowing crews may "turn up the heat" on storms like this one.

The city is looking at renting a snow-melting machine for next year's storm season.

It is basically a hot tub on wheels.

The mobile unit would run on diesel, and cost the city about 70,000 dollars to rent.

Crews dump snow in the unit instead of hauling it all to sites miles away.

Ben Dow/Fargo Public Works: “first we want to identify, do these work in 20 below weather every sales guy will tell you sure, but it is safer to rent it, sure we spent some money but if it does not work we are not out 400 thousand dollars.”

With a floodwall likely coming near 2nd street, it is possible the city would lose a snow piling site, so the snow-melt machine could benefit downtown as well.
