Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - More than 131 million shoppers are expected to head into cyber space Monday; and with so many potential customers, businesses are upping the discounts.

7.7 million online transactions: That's what Visa alone is expecting from their customers Monday on the busiest e-commerce day of the year, better known as Cyber Monday.

Locally, Swanson Health Products, headquartered here in Fargo, is geared up for a big sales day, as well.

Vitamins and supplements have become big business and with steep discounts on Cyber Monday, their website will be flooded with traffic.

Nicole Ellis- Public Relations, Swanson Health Products: "You know we would expect probably around a 10 percent increase over sales from last year. From a normal day, we are going to see over a 100 percent increase in the number of orders we're processing."

With the increased online traffic, businesses like Swanson are gearing up for the increased output.

Ellis: "We do load testing on our website to make sure it can handle the increase in traffic and we are expecting over a normal day about a 50 percent increase of traffic to our website."

With free shipping and up to 60 percent off items, Swanson says Cyber Monday is only behind January sales with all of those New Years resolutions.

Amazon.com sold more than 300 items per second last year, and expect to pass that record.
