Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Our fresh snow certainly makes it look like Christmas. And with that, a lot of you may be looking for that perfect tree.

The Minnesota Christmas Tree Association advises us to give a tree a gentle shake before buying. If a lot of needles fall, it may not be the freshest tree, and the needles on the branches should not be brittle.

Experts say it is best to cut about a half-inch of the bottom of a Christmas Tree, and get it in the water as soon as possible.

And to keep that tree healthy, water it a lot.

Ryan Viergutz- Fargo Fire Dept. Captain: “Especially when you bring them home that first week or two, they are going to drink a lot of water. It is not out of the question to drink three to four quarts a day.”

And Firefighters say LED lights help keep down the heat on trees. And they say it is not wise to leave home with the tree lighted and unattended.
