Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The first major snowfall of the winter has drivers on edge, and plows hitting the roadways in full force.

Throughout the day, plows have been sanding and salting the roads, yet cars are still slipping and sliding here along 25th Street South.

City, county and state plows are tackling the snow-covered roads.

The North Dakota DOT says by mid-morning, 42 state trucks were out and about in our region alone; and statewide, more than 300.

As of Monday, state plows will be working 24-hour shifts six days a week until April, so we may as well learn to share the roadways with them.

Bruce Nord- North Dakota DOT: “You know slow down when you see the flashing lights. We're out there just trying to do our job. Stay back and give us break; we'll pull over and let you go around us. Pass periodically.”

Monday's snowfall is only the tip of the iceberg, with more snow expected.
