Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Many of us are gathering with family for Thanksgiving today, but one in five people say they're spending the holiday with their co-workers.
That's according to a Harris Interactive survey on CareerBuilder.com
And some in Fargo-Moorhead are making the most of the working holiday.
Mitch Peters is thankful for the people he sees every day when he goes to work, not only his colleagues, but also those living at Edgewood Vista senior living.
Mitch Peters/Edgewood Vista: "We work with these residents every day so they become family to us."
And what better way to celebrate than by spending the holiday with them.
Peters is one of 20% of Americans spending Thanksgiving with co-workers.
Some are working, others just celebrating together.
Peters and the staff at Edgewood are doing both - they all share in a huge Thanksgiving feast with the residents.
Peters: "To get to sit down and visit with them, their traditions, how they used to do it."
The kitchen staff was hard at work preparing several turkeys and other fixings since after dinner Wednesday night.
Amanda Christianson/Cook: "I'm pretty excited actually, normally we spend Thanksgiving with my family and they're gone this holiday. So, I'm glad to be spending it with all of them."
And they aren't the only ones making the most of the working holiday.
Every year, Moorhead firefighters have their own fire station celebration.
Bert McDonough/Moorhead Fire Department: "A lot of times we make a big meal and we bring our families in for the afternoon, show them the trucks, and enjoy a little family time together."
They say it's a great way to spend the holiday, and to show off their cooking skills.
McDonough: "Firemen are really good cooks. So, there's always some interesting things that come up, a lot of good desserts."
