Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If you're traveling locally, be sure to set aside a little extra time.

Airports and roadways will see the highest traffic in the shortest period of time over the next few days, and delays are expected.

Triple A says nearly 39 million travelers will hit the roads over the Thanksgiving holiday, so travel carefully with the extra traffic.

Gene Ladoucher/Spokesman, AAA ND: “Drive defensively, make sure that your allowing plenty of time, watch the weather, have a winter survival kit in the vehicle, you know it’s cold today, always buckle up, don't drink and drive and obviously don’t drive distracted.”

North Dakota Highway Patrol reported over 200 crashes on their highways during the Thanksgiving travel period last year.
