Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - It wasn't that long ago when Jon Ammerman was lacing up his skates to begin a new year at the Moorhead Sports Center.

He's again lacing up his skates in Moorhead, but this time he's doing it as head coach of the Spuds.

Ammeran was hired in July to take over the team he used to play for and now the season is bearing down on him; but he's not alone, he's getting some help from former Spuds coach Dave Morinville who's volunteering as an assistant with the goalies.

Jon Ammerman/1st Year Spuds Hockey Coach: “I think just continuing the legacy that the people before me have built up. There's been a lot of sweat and tears that have gone into the job prior and hopefully I continue that tradition with the guys that I have along with me. Hopefully, it's a successful season.”

Aaron Herdt/Moorhead Sr. Forward: “I think coach Ammerman wants us to score a lot of goals this year. He wants us to play good defense and be disciplined, but he's very offensive. He wants us to get points and wants us to win games.”

Spuds have been to state three straight years; they open the season Saturday at home against 2nd ranked Blaine.
