Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Nineteen North Dakota children now have "forever families" after a ceremony in Fargo today.

Adults Adopting Special Kids, or AASK, celebrated National Adoption Day today at the Cass County Courthouse.

Sixteen foster care children were adopted, along with three infants through the Pregnancy, Parenting, and Adoption program.

An estimated 4,500 children were welcomed into permanent homes nationwide.

Sonja McLean, AASK Supervisor: "This is a great celebration that we take months and months of preparation for, bringing all these families together, being able to really celebrate and take the time to acknowledge their adoptions and acknowledge the permanency that these children have finally achieved."

One of the adoptive parents at the courthouse today has dedicated her life to giving kids a home.

Sheree Vetter is showing that there is no wrong way to be an adoptive parent.

"This is a great way to build a family, I've always wanted kids."

Sheree Vetter, a single Fargo woman, is adopting her fourth child through the foster care system.

Vetter: "People probably think I'm crazy to do this as a single person but it really is a calling for me."

She started with foster care; over the years, 15 children have come through her home. When the opportunity to adopt arose, she went for it.

Within a year Robert, Isaac, and Hannah were all part of the family.

Despite the challenges that come with being a single parent, she says it's worth it.

Vetter: "It's about what I can give them and what kind of life they can have."

Today, little Joseph officially joined the family. But really, he has been a Vetter for months. He came to Sheree's home back in January, at just two days old.

Hannah Vetter: "He is fun to be with. He gets me up really early in the morning!"

Sheree Vetter: "It's exciting, he completes our family."
