Colfax, ND (WDAY TV) - A big scare today for students at Richland 44 junior and senior high school in Colfax.
That's where a medical emergency sent one student to the hospital.
The incident first came across the scanners Thursday around 11:30, saying a female student was unresponsive in the schools bathroom after a possible drug overdose.
When we arrived at Richland 44, the superintendent could not tell us much, but said the student had already left by ambulance and went to a hospital, but would not say which one.
He could not confirm if drugs were involved, just that there was a medical emergency.
And would not tell us the students’ sex, name, or grade.
He did say he believes the student was conscious and breathing when he or she left the building by ambulance.
Students inside seemed extremely shaken by such a rare incident for this small school.
I spoke with some after school off camera.
They told me they're in the dark as well.
And say the school did not make any type of announcement regarding what happened.
Les Dale/Superintendent: “Well I think anytime that you have something going on, we're a small school so it effects other kids and they're kind of wondering what's going on too.
Kay: Is this a rare situation to have happen here?
Dale: “It is for us, yes.”
The student's current condition is unknown.
The Richland County Sheriff’s office is looking into the case, they too would not confirm if the emergency involved a drug overdose.
