Colfax, ND (WDAY TV) – Students and faculty got a big scare today at Richland 44 junior and senior high school in Colfax this afternoon. A medical emergency sent one student to the hospital.

The incident first came across the scanners today around 11:30, saying a female student was unresponsive in the schools bathroom after a drug overdose.

When crews arrived at Richland 44, the superintendent could not tell us much, but said the student had already left by ambulance and went to a hospital. He would not say who the student was. He would also not confirm if drugs were involved, just that there was a medical emergency.

He did say he believes the student was conscious and breathing when he or she left the building by ambulance. Students inside seemed extremely shaken by such a rare incident for this small school.

The student's current condition is unknown. The Richland County Sheriff’s office is looking into the case. They too would not confirm if the emergency involved a drug overdose.
