Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - MSUM continues to battle its budget deficit, they're hoping to cut five million dollars, so far they've only come up with 2.5 million in savings.
Only 19 of the eligible 97 faculty members took the early retirement option offered, as a means to avoid layoffs.
Now the university is analyzing every program for quality, student demand and cost effectiveness.
Every department is prioritized, those least likely to see cuts include the sciences and teaching program.
Now faculty has a week to respond to the latest data.
Dr. Anne Blackhurst/MSUM, Provost: “In the departments where we eventually determine we will need to take reductions we do plan to offer another round of early separation incentives.”
The deficit comes from a drop in enrollment - almost twelve percent since 2010.
December 5th is the deadline for notifying the Faculty Association of the finalized reductions.
