Chad Johnson, former Force assistant coach died Monday.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Police have identified the man hit and killed by a train in Fargo on Monday, former Fargo hockey coach.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Police have identified the man hit and killed by a train in Fargo on Monday, former Fargo hockey coach.

43-year-old Chad Lewis Johnson of Fargo died of injuries related to being struck by a train.

Police were called to the 42-hundred block of main avenue around 5:30 last night, after a BNSF operator found the body along the eastbound track.

Johnson was a former coach in Fargo, and played college hockey at UND.

Chad Johnson was a loved hockey figure in this community and news of his passing has hit his friends, former teammates and current players hard.

Johnson had spent the past three years in Lincoln, coaching in the USHL.

He resigned from that job in September to be closer to his family in Fargo and deal with some health issues.

He spent five years coaching in Fargo, first with the F-M Jets, then as an assistant with the Force, he played hockey at UND in the early 90's and left lasting memories for his friends.

Chad Skarperud/Friend of Chad Johnson: “I've never met a guy that knew as many people as he did. He was well liked and loved by everybody. I know of many hockey players that he has coached that just have nothing but great things to say and he's just a very good guy.”

Dave Noah/Friend of Chad Johnson: “You know, it's funny because even when you bring up the name Chad Johnson it brings a smile to my face. The guy could come into the locker room and light up the world. He was just a good, good-hearted person.”

Johnson was a roomate of UND head coach Dave Hakstol who in a written statement said that we are all better for knowing him and will miss his quick wit and genuine friendship.
