Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - BNSF railway has confirmed one of its trains has hit and killed a Fargo man.
Just before six p.m. Monday, reports came in from a different train operator, who spotted the body. Not long after that, officers found the body.
It happened along the 41 hundred block of Main, behind a row a commercial buildings.
They're calling this victim a trespasser because you can see these poles... This is where BNSF property starts.
And only a few feet back is where the train tracks sit.
That's where officials say a 43-year-old Fargo man was hit and killed around 5 this afternoon.
Police tell us the man was hit by the train, but the accident wasn't reported until a second train was passing by and spotted what they thought was a body.
Shortly after officers were dispatched west of I-29 to this track where they did indeed find a body.
Lt. Joel Vettel- Fargo Police Dept.: "These are tragic situations any time somebody dies in our community, especially in a situation where it's a tragic death involving being struck by trains. So, again, we'll treat this like we do any unattended death. As part of a consistent investigation and certainly we'll try to do all we can to come to a resolution very quickly."
Police are still working on contacting the immediate family to try to piece together what happened before this accident, where the man might have been before he was killed.
