Fargo homeowner chases perpetrator

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - In a disturbance in Fargo overnight, a victim decided to take matters into his own hands.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - In a disturbance in Fargo overnight, a victim decided to take matters into his own hands.

Fargo Police say a homeowner began chasing a man through his neighborhood after he caught him banging on his windows.

Just before midnight in the 1400 block of West Gateway Circle, the incident took place. Authorities say they aren't sure why the individual was knocking on the victim’s window in the first place. However, they are sure of one thing: Don't go chasing after those bad guys.

Lt. Joel Vettel- Fargo Police Department: "You don't know what the motivation is of the suspect. You don't know if that individual is caring a weapon."

Yet, that's just what this unidentified victim did.

Vettel: "To chase after the individual; actually chasing him through several backyards."

The entire scenario is alarming to Liz Rodriguez, who says it's typically a quiet neighborhood.

Liz Rodriguez- Lives in Neighborhood: "I usually walk my dog at night time. The last walk; and I don't usually lock my door at night, but I guess I'm going to have to start doing that."

Lieutenant Joel Vettel with Fargo Police says more than 10 minutes passed before the victim called 911. He advises calling 911 right away, especially if you're going to chase down the perpetrator on your own.

Vettel: "At least they have somebody there, coming to back them up."

Authorities did set up a perimeter and use a K9 in hopes of tracking a scent, but it was soon lost.

The incident is still under investigation.

No suspect description is available.
