GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Adam Krause scored two goals and Austin Farley added a goal and an assist to lead Minnesota-Duluth past North Dakota 6-3 on Saturday.
UMD (5-4-1, 2-2-0-0 National Collegiate Hockey Conference) scored three times in the first period to earn a split of the two-game weekend series.
North Dakota (4-5-1, 3-5-0-0), which had lost three of its last four home games, won 4-2 on Friday.
Willie Raskob had three assists Saturday for the Bulldogs, who got 17 saves from Aaron Crandall.
Dillon Simpson had a goal and an assist for UND. Bryn Chyzyk and Paul Ladue scored for North Dakota.
"The difference in the game was our game management the last two minutes of the first period and the last minute of the second period. That was the difference in the hockey game," UND coach Dave Hakstol said.
Alex Iafallo on Minnesota-Duluth and Dillon Simpson of North Dakota exchanged early goals, but the last half of the first period belonged to the Bulldogs.
Krause and Farley scored just two minutes apart for a 3-1 lead after one period. Krause took a drop pass on an odd-man rush and beat Clarke Saunders at 17:32. Farley scored on a shot from the point through traffic on a power play at 19:49.
Saunders made 10 saves on 13 shots on goal in the period. UMD outshot North Dakota 13-8.
UND replaced Saunders with Zane Gothberg in the second period and they combined for 18 saves.
Krause and Sammy Spurrell added insurance goals for the Bulldogs. Spurrell's goal came minutes after UMD killed off a 5-on-3 power play.
UND was 2-for-6 on the power play and Minnesota-Duluth had one power-play goal in four tries. The Bulldogs came into the series tops in the nation in the penalty kill and UND was third.
