Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Fargo man is in custody after police have to use a taser to make the arrest.
The incident happened early this morning in South Fargo, after an alleged drunk driver, 39-year-old Andrew Thompson, took off from officers.
Fargo police first tried to pull Thompson over for reckless driving after he fled a traffic stop. Officers then spotted his vehicle here in the parking lot at Wal-Mart on 52nd avenue.
Joel Vettel/Fargo Police: "The driver at that point became belligerent both verbally and then ultimately physically."
So much so, to get him under control, police had to use a taser.
Police say it's a tool carried by officers daily, but only used about 15 to 20 times a year.. mostly when people become combative
Vettel: "In this particular case, certainly the guy was showing some very clear signs that he was going to be combative, clenching of the fists, refusal to take and cooperate."
Right now, Thompson also is refusing to cooperate for a mug shot.
Thompson faces a laundry list of charges, including DUI, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
