NDSU dance team reaches deal to get back on the sidelineFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - After months of being banned from the sidelines of Bison games, the NDSU Dance Team is back in the spirit.
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - After months of being banned from the sidelines of Bison games, the NDSU Dance Team is back in the spirit.
Behind closed doors, officials and three dance co-captains negotiated an agreement to continue to perform at sporting events.
And now, they've reached a deal.
Despite many different violations the school claims the dance team made, they have struck a deal with the team. Meaning, after their national championships in January, the team can start performing once again.
According to the university problems have been festering for years, and by September of 2013 - NDSU put a stop to the cheers.
That's because officials claim the team was using athletic facilities for unauthorized practices.
Also promoted dance team corporate partners in NDSU venues which conflicts major guidelines.
Now that the school and the team are on the same page, both sides seem eager to move forward.
Hilary Haugeberg/Congress of Student Organizations: "The biggest concern I think was just the relationship. And mending the broken relationship and gaining trust back on both sides of the Bison dance team and with the athletic department. And so, now that's going to be off of a solid foundation, everyone is super excited and really positive about where it's going to go in the future."
In an email I received from a dance team representative, it says they're sad they cannot be out on the football field this season and hope for many positive changes in the future.
Specifics of the agreement weren't released to us.
But we do know the team’s first performance will be during the basketball season starting in January.
