BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man is facing several charges for a series of events that began when police say he punched a Bismarck Wal-Mart employee who tried to stop him for shoplifting.

Twenty-one-year-old Anthony Olson, of Scranton, is charged with robbery, terrorizing, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that police were called to the Bismarck Wal-Mart Thursday afternoon for a report of a shoplifter. Authorities say Olson punched a loss prevention employee several times in the face.

Officers then received a report that a man matching Olson's description entered a Bismarck business without permission and fled when confronted by workers. The suspect barricaded himself in a nearby trailer, where he allegedly threatened to kill officers with two throwing knives.

Police say Olson surrendered after negotiations with officers.
