Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Final Four Friday gave us some intriguing matchups all over the state, some of the rematches, others just two good teams facing one another.
That was the backdrop as South took on 2nd ranked Minot inside the Fargodome.
The fireworks started early as Zach Kellen with the play action, gets hit, but goes downfield for Ty Brooks, who's wide open, 38 yards for the touchdown, 7-0 Bruins.
Minot comes right back to score to tie it at 7.
But South goes back to the big play as James Johannesson gets loose and he's done this to so many teams, he's gone 72 yards to the land of six, Johannesson with 130 yards at the half, Bruins up 14-7.
Magicians answer in the second, Ben Bolinksie on the one yard touchdown, ties the game at 14.
South up 17-14 at the break.
Same score in the 3rd; Brooks scores on a two yard keeper, South extends lead to 24-14.
Minot answers again, so it's 24-21 in the fourth quarter, this time it's Kellen scoring, Bruins extend lead to 31-21.
South forces a turnover and they put the dagger in as Johannssen, who had 315 yards and 2 scores, 8-21 at that point.
Bruins back in the title game for first time since 2010, 38-28.
Drew Fahrman/South Sr. OL: “Quite a few of us seniors were on the last state championship team. We were able to practice as freshmen. It was just something really special to get back there and be able to do what we can do.”
Joe Mehrer/South Sr. OL: “It's been our motto the whole season. It starts with the O-line and where we go the rest of us go. That was our goal to get him in the end zone and get the "W".”
