Fargo elementary students learn about Native American Heritage Month

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo elementary schoolers get a special history lesson to celebrate Native American Heritage Month.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo elementary schoolers get a special history lesson to celebrate Native American Heritage Month.

Dakota Goodhouse, a Native American musician and story teller presented for fourth graders at Lincoln Elementary.

Goodhouse showed off and explained the meaning behind a Dakota-Lakota winter count.

A visual record of the tribes' history, reaching back 1,100 years.

He also shared some of his stories, a taste of his culture, and a language lesson.

Dakota Goodhouse/ ND Humanities Council: “There is some symbolism associated with this and the exercise and practice of this particular art discipline, it all involves patience.”

After he presented at Lincoln Elementary, Goodhouse went to Lewis and Clark.
