Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) - A couple in Fergus Falls said goodbye to the family pet after a fire at their home.
Tom & Patty Kingston say their 13-year-old dog died of smoke inhalation in the fire.
Tom Kingston was out in the yard blowing leaves, and when he turned back to the house... he noticed the fire.
He tried to go inside but the thick black smoke was too much.
There is serious smoke damage to the home.
Crews say they put out the fire in the nick of time.
Mark Hovland/Fire Chief: “With this fire, there was a lot of heavy black smoke throughout the home. Which tells me there were a lot of plastics. That is typical of this generation of homes. The fires of this generation are burning a lot hotter and faster.”
Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire, but say they are looking at the home's laundry room.
