FARGO – Court documents shed light on what led up to Sunday’s arrest of a Fargo man accused of attacking several people with a knife.

Kurtis David Harrington already had several assault convictions under his belt when Fargo police were called about 2 a.m. Sunday to an apartment in the 2500 block of 15th Street South on a report of a man with a knife trying to kick down a door.

According to court documents, when officers arrived, a witness pointed out Harrington as being the man with the knife.

Officers ordered Harrington at gunpoint to put his hands up and approach them.

But Harrington ran into the kitchen, and attempted to punch officers when they tried to arrest him, until one of the officers kicked Harrington’s legs out from under him.

The report also states officers interviewed a witness at the party, Bailey James Ledger, who told them a group of people including Harrington’s mother and girlfriend had been drinking at the apartment.

The mother and the girlfriend asked Harrington to buy drugs for them, Ledger said. This upset Harrington, who refused.

Ledger told officers that Harrington became more upset when his girlfriend tried to pop a pimple on another man’s face.

Ledger said this eventually led to Harrington challenging the man to a fight, during which Harrington tried to stab him. That’s when the man and other guests ran into the bedroom and locked the door.

Harrington appeared Monday in Cass County District Court on charges of simple assault on a peace officer and terrorizing, both Class C felonies. His bail was set at $25,000.
