Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - People living in Moorhead will soon see the city's first new mayor in 12 years.

Another first - she. Is not a he.

On Election Day, Del Rae Williams was up against three men, and says she's still shocked by the outcome.

I sat down with Del Rae Williams today. Elected Moorhead's first ever female mayor since the city started back in 1881.

Who told me she wants to make history in Moorhead, not only because of her sex.

Del Rae Williams/Elected Mayor: "It will definitely be different."

Just seeing her name, you may not know the difference.

Williams: "It was important to put my face out there so you can say oh okay, no beard"

And for Del Rae Williams, being the first mayor without any facial hair.

Williams: "That is kind of cool."

Votes show you no longer need a lengthy political background, rather a clear vision to lead the city.

And Williams says it's a city where times are changing, she's just the next step.

Williams: "A mayor in Moorhead won't always be a white man."

While Mayor Voxland has an infamous kick for hot sauce, Williams says a flavorful tidbit about her, her taste in music.

Williams: "The one that people never guess is I am a KISS fan, you know like KISS the band."

Face paint and fireworks aside, Williams aims to use artists to breathe new life into Moorhead's downtown culture.

Williams: "That's when businesses will feel like they can take a risk down there too."

Followed by working directly with the people, tackling their top concerns, repairing road problems and putting life back into city parks.

Williams: "People moved here because of the quality and I think they want that quality back."

Williams won with 37 percent of the vote, beating out runner up, Councilman Mike Hulett
