Pelican Rapids, MN (WDAY TV) - A 22 million-dollar vote in Pelican Rapids Tuesday night… The vote shows just how divided this community is. We told you last week about both supporters and opponents bringing in outside firms to push their votes.

Here is a look at the numbers. It was a nail biter.

After 2,700 or more voters turned out, the bond passed by only 106 votes: 1426 yes votes and 1320 nos.

The school has been fighting for this vote for more than a year now; pushing back against strong, no groups from the start.

But finally, Tuesday, the bond has passed and Wanek says this will be a big benefit for everyone including the students.

Deb Wanek- Pelican Rapids Superintendent: "When the building is finished and we have rooms that are actually set for 21st century technology electricity, that will be great. And then to have the large space when we have activities here, there's no place for kids to wait between. They've been in hallways and kind of crowded. Well, now they'll have opportunity to sit and actually sit at tables and not sit at the floor."

Construction will begin as soon as this spring.
