Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - Voters in Detroit Lakes Tuesday decided on the biggest school bond referendum the district has ever had: $59 million dollars.

Every school in the district would be affected by it.

With two of two precincts reporting Tuesday night. The vote has soundly failed; 1703 no votes to 1239 yes votes.

Absentee ballots haven't been counted yet, but they wouldn't be enough to change the outcome.

The money would've been used to cover improvements and additions at all schools in the district, as well as build a new elementary school.

A family living in a $200,000 home would see about $340 in new taxes each year.

The superintendent says it's time for the district to regroup.
