Otter Tail County, MN (WDAY TV) - New updates in the Scott Burris murder investigation out of Otter Tail County.
Scott Burris' cousin, 23-year-old Michael Kyle Burris, faces felony second-degree murder charges for killing him over a drug debt.
He appeared in Otter Tail County Court Monday after being extradited from Arizona.
His father, 65-year-old Michael Alan Burris, is also charged in the case and living in Arizona, but did not waive extradition.
Monday, we learned that he, too, will be coming back to Minnesota by the end of the week.
In court, Michael Kyle Burris' attorney asked for more time to review material.
Joe Parise- Defense Attorney: “The court wants to make sure that the prosecutor has made the necessary filings required to proceed, and that the defense has received the discovery they've requested.”
Michelle Eldien- Assistant Otter Tail County Attorney: “It's a voluminous case. We're talking, as the judge said; 8, 9 pages of witnesses. There's reports we're trying to get into a format for him to work with that's a lot easier.”
If convicted, Michael Kyle Burris faces up to 40 years in prison. His father has an extradition deadline of this Friday.
