FARGO – A 22-year-old with a history of assault convictions was arrested in Fargo early Sunday after reportedly attacking several people with a knife.
According to Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel:
Officers were called to an apartment in the 2500 block of 15th St. S. on a report of an individual with a knife trying to kick down a door.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found several people inside and asked who had the knife. Several people pointed to an individual, who then began running.
When officers tried to stop him, the man began striking out at officers and police used a Taser in their efforts to subdue him.
The suspect was eventually taken to the ground and placed in custody.
Vettel identified him as Kurtis David Harrington, 22, no permanent address.
Individuals at the apartment told police that Harrington became agitated after arguing with several people and he ultimately grabbed a knife and attacked several individuals.
The victims told police that when they ran to a bedroom and closed the door, Harrington used the knife in an attempt to break his way into the room.
Vettel said Harrington faces a number of charges, including assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, preventing arrest and terrorizing.
This past February, Harrington was arrested after he walked into the kitchen area of the Mezzaluna restaurant in downtown Fargo and attacked workers.
In that case, he was charged in Fargo Municipal Court with simple assault and resisting arrest.
Several days after the incident, Harrington walked into the restaurant during a private Super Bowl party and asked for a beer.
Harrington ultimately pleaded guilty to simple assault and resisting arrest and was sentenced to a total of 90 days.
In addition, Cass County District Court records show Harrington pleaded guilty in August 2012 to charges of simple assault, theft of property and reckless endangerment.
Vettel said in that case Harrington assaulted him after Vettel confronted Harrington for driving recklessly in a stolen car.
Harrington was given a total of 10 months in that case and he was ordered to pay restitution of $6,350.
