Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The holidays are right around the corner and you know what that means: Shopping season is here.
Now, more than ever it's beginning to become a competition of who can open earlier on Black Friday.
We're just 31 days out from this mall turning into a circus and West Acres says they're thinking about opening as early as 8 p.m. - on Thanksgiving.
People aren't sure about the early start.
In fact, this Fargo mom isn't too sure about Black Friday at all.
Jenny Wilmore/Shopper: "If I do go I like to wait ‘til noon and get in and get out."
Despite the fact, three of the four big department stores like JCPenny, Macy’s, Sears, and Herberger’s have already confirmed its doors will unlock for shoppers at 8 - the evening of thanksgiving.
That's a four hour difference compared to last year when the shopping center opened at midnight.
Marissa Kirby/Customer: "It's kind of ridiculous sometimes how bad it gets."
But sophomore Marissa Kirby doesn't mind the out-of their mind customers.
Marrissa Kirby/Shopper: "You get really good deal so, it's worth it."
And it's people like her and many, many more who sparked CEO's across the country to press the limits
when it comes to opening times.
Now, West Acres is surveying its retailers to see how early is too early.
So far, the answers are all over the board.
Schlossman: "Really torn between the family time on thanksgiving and the fact that customers show up in really big numbers even at midnight on thanksgiving."
Customers seem torn too.
Jenny who doesn't even dig the fiasco Friday says it's a good idea.
Wilmore: "Because usually people have wound down by thanksgiving by that time."
While, on the other hand, this super shopper, thinks there's definite line being crossed when it comes to opening shops early on a holiday meant for family.
Kirby: "The purpose of black Friday shopping is to go shopping on Friday."
So far, the West Acres survey isn't complete.
Managers say results should be out by Friday.
