FARGO – Fargo police say they are detaining a 16-year-old suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in north Fargo early this morning.
Officers were called to the 60 block of Sixth Avenue North about 6:22 a.m., said police Lt. Joel Vettel.
The girl said she had been sexually assaulted just before the call to police.
The 16-year-old boy was still in the area when police arrived, Vettel said.
Investigators are trying to determine if the two minors knew each other before the assault, or if they were strangers.
Vettel said there are no indications other incidents related to this assault occurred. He said police do not believe there’s a danger to the public.
“Stranger attacks are almost nonexistent,” he said, pointing out that in sexual assault cases, the parties involved usually know each other.
Vettel said police are working to establish a timeline of the events in the case, and are trying to sort out discrepancies between the two minors’ versions of what occurred,
