Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - The road to the section championship wasn't an easy one for the Moorhead Spuds, they lost three times during the regular season, twice at home but Kevin Feeney's team has hit its stride at just the right time.

The Spuds are a win away from a third straight state appearance.

They will face Sartell on Saturday, and despite a slow start to the season the players say this is the game they expected to be in all season

Brett Lawrence/Moorhead Sr. Wide Receiver: “It's almost becoming an expectation now, it's really something we look forward, a goal every year”

Kevin Feeney/Moorhead Head Coach: “We told the kids right at the beginning

of the season, it's an attainable goal and a long journey to that and I think the kids figured that out and playing our best football right now so goal one was achieved and goal 2 is to win the section championship”

The Spuds will play at 7 Saturday night in St. Cloud, one of the many games we'll be covering this weekend, including a showdown at Concordia as Detroit Lakes takes on Thief River Falls, the fun begins in Fargo on Thursday.
