DAYTON, Minn. – Three Minnesota children have become ill with confirmed E. coli infections from a pumpkin patch in this northern Twin Cities community.
The Minnesota Department of Health said Saturday the three children range in age from 15 months to 7 years old who were visitors at Dehn’s Pumpkins.
One child is hospitalized with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious complication of E. coli, characterized by kidney failure, the news release said.
The two others were not hospitalized and are recovering, the health department said.
State health officials are following up with any groups that visited the farm since Oct. 12.
All of the cases reported having contact with cattle or goats at the farm.
The health department says the owners of the farm have been cooperative and have restricted access to those animals.
Those who visited Dehn’s Pumpkins since Oct. 12 and develops symptoms of E. coli should contact their health care provider.
