Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Some Moorhead students are trading in their books, pencils and backpacks for a little manual labor.

Students in grades two through eight at Saint Joe's helped rake the lawns of up to 20 individuals in their first ever Rake-A-Thon.

It's all part of a lesson in serving others. Students raked the yards of the elderly, the handicapped and community supporters.

Kylie Harrom- St. Joseph’s 8th Grader: “It actually feels good to help out people, especially like the elderly or disabled people to rake their yard. It just feels good and people say you have a good heart and you’re caring, so yeah.”

Assistant Principal Andrew Hilliker said for some benefiting from the student's service, it was a pleasant surprise, and they were very grateful.
