A historic home in Fargo was saved from a fire early Thursday morning

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Firefighters were able to save a historic home on Fargo's south side early Thursday morning.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Firefighters were able to save a historic home on Fargo's south side early Thursday morning.

Don and Mary Kinzler along with their two children smelled smoke around 5 AM.

The fire was in the attic of the century old home.

20 firefighters responded.

When they arrived, flames and heavy smoke were visible from south university.

There is significant damage to the third floor attic, and roof. And water and smoke damage in other parts of the home.

Known as The Weber House, it was moved from Fergus Falls to Fargo in 1991.

For two decades, the Kinzler’s have gradually restored the century old Victorian. Despite the fire damage, the family plans to move back in soon.

Don Kinzler/Home Damaged in Fire: “Our hope is it will be fine so far we have been encouraged at what we have seen. But we don't know the extent of the roof damage.”

Mary Kinzler/Home Danaged in Fire: “I thought it would be worse, I think we are blessed that I heard that this morning and we are safe. “

Because of the unique location of the old house, firefighters found the closest hydrant, 700 feet away.
