Consistent Bison linebackers provide foundation for defense

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If there's one reason why the Bison defense has been ranked number one over the last two years, it has to be consistency, especially at linebacker. NDSU has had Grant Olson, Travis Beck and Carlton Littlejohn play nearly every snap on defense. Last year they played 97 percent of the time, and that has led to unspoken communication with the players.

Grant Olson: “It's amazing after you've played so much with so many guys all the practice reps and game reps you know where guys are going to be, so naturally you feed off of another, coach will be watching film, you guys did this backwards, you took his job, he did yours, there wasn't any hesitation, it's one of those things.”

Steve Stanard, NDSU Linebackers Coach: “They have great attention to detail, they want to know what to improve, want to be coached, even though Grant thinks he knows it all, he always wants to be coached - Makes them a special group.”

Littlejohn missed the last two games with a knee injury; he'll back this weekend for Indiana State.
