FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Twenty-nine North Dakota National Guard soldiers have been honored for their service at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba.

The Guard held a "Freedom Salute" ceremony Sunday at the Fargo Air Museum for members of the 191st Military Police Company. Gov. Jack Dalrymple was among those who spoke at the event.

The soldiers mobilized last October and arrived at the high-security prison at Guantanamo Bay a month later, joining a larger force there. They returned home this past August.

The last time North Dakota National Guardsmen served in Cuba was during the Spanish-American War.
