Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Fargo runner is making strides on a national scale after placing high in the Chicago Marathon over the weekend.

Eric Loeffler has run countless races, including the Chicago Marathon now three times.

This year, in 2 hours 18 minutes and 40 seconds, earning him a 24th place finish overall.

And out of all of the US runners, he came in 9th.

Loeffler says he just missed the cut for the 2016 Olympic trials, so he plans to run another one to qualify.

Eric Loeffler: “Big marathons like that, I always like to get on that stage and try to race as well as I can, so to see kind of where you stack up against people, you know the top guys in the country, or world or whatever.”

More than 40,000 athletes ran the race on Sunday.
