Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Davies High School Senior is helping ease the pain of Cancer Patients in Minnesota and North Dakota.

He created "Quilt for Cure" a charity project offering blankets to those battling cancer.

Just 17 years-old, Sid Gupta is tackling a tough question.

A question that came to him after volunteering at the American Cancer Society.

"What can I do to help out these Cancer Patients?"

A big task for anyone to undertake - let alone a fulltime student.

Sid Gupta – Quilt for Cure, Organizer: "They'd be shivering, they felt alone, they just felt like they weren't being helped out."

His solution, "Quilt for Cure".

Gupta: "Quilts are able to express people's opinions. They can have different patterns, designs, different colors."

Stitch by Stitch, Gupta's vision became a reality.

Gupta: "Slowly I made a website and started asking people and spreading the word - donations and quilts started coming in - then a domino effect from that."

From $200 and a handful of quilts to $7,000 in donations and more than 500 quilts, Gupta's charity is providing warmth and comfort to many.

Gupta: "All of the Cancer patients at Essentia Health Fargo, Wahpeton, Park Rapids and Duluth and we're on the verge of covering all of Fargo, Grand Forks, and all of Minot."

Gupta: "It's not just quilts like this that are being donated, the students are also making tie blankets. When they're complete they're putting special messages on them like this one that says, "Stay Strong and Keep Fighting"."

The response from those in need - overwhelming.

In fact - testimonials like this one are proof.

"These quilts will not only warm the body but will rekindle a sense of strength, inspiration and fortitude to the soul - thank you so much."

Gupta: "It really makes my heart feel warm that somebody has been helped out by something that I did that I accomplished.
