Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It was set to be one of Fargo's perfect fall weddings: A ballroom reception, a much sought-after band, limos and a bridal suite...

Then, the phone call: The bride was "left at the altar” and out thousands of dollars.

But in the end, Michelle Marxen is having the last laugh, and CCRI clients are coming out the winners.

Flowers; we were getting flowers from Shotwell's.

One look at Michelle Marxen's wedding planner, and there is no doubt this was set to be a wow wedding.

Michelle Marxen- Donating Wedding Day to CCRI: “My fairy tale wedding: You know, as a young girl, you dream of your wedding day.”

Signed contracts reveal a planned night of fabulous flowers, music from Tripwire, a dream gown, the big ballroom at the Ramada, photographers and limos.

Marxen: “We were staying in the governor's suite.”

But the day the wedding invitations were set to go out, he said, “I love you,” and he went to work.

Michelle got a phone call on her way back from a funeral. It was her fiancé.

Marxen: “He didn't want to marry me. He said he didn't love me anymore.”

Her wedding day crumbled like cake.

Marxen: “We spent a whole year planning this wedding and it all ended with one phone call.”

Michelle says she spent the next few days calling family, friends and vendors she called to cancel, but was still stuck paying for.

Marxen: “Contracts are contracts.”

So, out thousands of dollars, Michelle and her family decided to make lemonade out of lemons and still throw a party for someone else.

The crystal ballroom would not be without celebration on October 19th.

Marxen: “It is a very nice pumpkin.”

No wedding, but a Halloween Celebration for the clients of CCRI.

Marxen: “It is absolutely amazing.”

Friday, they decorated pumpkins and made posters all in preparation for the donated crystal ballroom fit for kings and queens, ghoulish goblins and more.

Jody Hudson- CCRI: “I was speechless. I could not believe it. I called the next day to make sure it was for real.”

Instead of a weekend of what ifs and whys, Michelle knows this is making the best of a bride's worst nightmare. It will be different…

Hudson: “It is for us.”

…But this night will be memorable for those Michelle chose to honor.

Marxen: "What was supposed to be my special day will now be their special day."

Michelle will be in Vegas the night of her planned wedding.
