Jamestown regulates adult entertainment businesses

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — The city of Jamestown has decided to regulate adult entertainment businesses before they become an issue.

The City Council unanimously passed an ordinance this week that regulates and limits the possible locations of businesses including strip clubs, escort services, adult modeling agencies and adult theaters.

"Our fear was these businesses could locate anywhere in commercial districts," Mayor Katie Andersen said. "There are a lot of pieces that protect the public, and a lot of regulation that will deter this type of business from coming to Jamestown."

The ordinance limits adult-oriented businesses to locations within heavy industrial areas where the property is at least 300 feet from any church, school, residence, liquor establishment or other adult-oriented business, The Jamestown Sun reported.

The ordinance also prohibits alcohol from being served in adult entertainment businesses and requires the owners and workers to be licensed and submit to background checks. Owners and workers also must be at least 18 years old.
