Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The city of Moorhead is celebrating a new pumping station tonight.

This Red River pumping station will supply Moorhead with about 85-percent of its drinking water, every year.

The floor of the station was raised to 45-feet, which is above the 500-year flood level.

There are also 3 new energy-efficient pumps, and a zebra repellant intake, which will give Moorhead a reliable water source, even during floods.

Kristopher Knutson, Water Division Manager: “Previous to this improvement, a lot of a pumping infrastructure was below the 500 year FEMA flood level, so this elevated everything up to the 500 year flood level, so all of our critical pumping infrastructure is above 45-feet.”

A majority of the funding came from FEMA.
